Changelog: Week of September 12

Your weekly targets, in step with Intervals.icu

Weekly targets now travel both ways between your plan and Intervals.icu. Turn on "Show my weekly targets in Intervals.icu" under Settings β†’ Integrations and the weekly load and time from your plan appear in your Intervals.icu week summary and fitness chart, kept current as the plan changes. A target you set in Intervals.icu is never overwritten; instead it shapes your plan from the following week on, and the Training Plan page marks it "from Intervals.icu" next to the plan's own number and anything you set yourself. The shape of the week follows too: a week you planned lighter becomes a recovery week with at most one hard session, a full week gets the hard sessions of a build week, and taper and race weeks keep the shape built around your race.

Full-page activities and sessions, in beta

Rides and planned sessions can now open on a page of their own instead of a small window. Turn it on under Settings β†’ Beta. A completed ride gets the whole analysis, every chart and the complete interval table; a planned session gets its structure on the clock, why it was chosen and what it does to your week, the weather across the ride, fuelling on the session's own timeline, and one place to move, swap or switch it between indoor and outdoor. The session page also lists which platforms receive your workouts from Intervals.icu, with the last upload, and tells you when a platform has "Upload planned workouts" switched off. More on it in Thursday's announcement.

Recovery curves, from every clean morning

Your recovery curves are now fitted only from mornings with no training in between. A morning after which you had already trained again was being read as slow recovery, which made the fitted rate about a third too slow and hid the curve for athletes who train on consecutive days. Across the athletes we tested it on, the new fit predicts the next mornings better than the old one. The recovery time shown after a session now depends on the kind of session rather than its size, because across IntervalCoach a bigger threshold or VO2max session does not cost more the next morning than a typical one; long endurance rides are the exception and keep scaling with distance. Every recovery surface now says whether a curve is fitted from your own mornings or is the population default for your fitness, the recovery card leads with how this morning compares with what your recent hard sessions predict, and Train Now respects your own curve too. The morning check is more patient as well: a session is no longer removed on the first partial scrap of overnight data, and a session cut back early in the morning comes back with a notification when the full night clears you.

Around the app

Our latest update now finds you in the web app, as a small card in the corner with a picture and a short summary. If Strava is the only app connected to your Intervals.icu account, setup and the dashboard now tell you on day one that sessions will arrive without power, heart rate or load, and point you to a direct connection. The floating support bubble is gone; Contact is a button at the bottom of the side menu. Moving a session to another day keeps its start time, adding a workout from the calendar offers the sports you actually train, and the Edit Schedule dialog says what a schedule change actually does. There is also an ambassador program for athletes who bring IntervalCoach to a club, team or training group: free Max for as long as you are active, the club AI digest, a story on the blog and a direct line to the founder. Coach+ gained a few things too: it can hand a problem to the IntervalCoach team when it cannot explain a failure or when your question is about your account, with the message shown to you for approval first; it answers "how is my adherence" per session type, sport and week; and it builds a real pool session in metres from your CSS. Swim sessions in your plan are now written the same way, in whole 50s at a pace per 100 m, or yards on imperial units.

Bug fixes & reliability

Most of this week went into making the coach and the plan do exactly what they say. Coach+ now checks your calendar before confirming a session it added, leaves a session you asked for on a switched-off day in place, keeps exact intervals exactly as you wrote them, no longer stretches a 52-minute ride to two hours to chase a load it cannot reach, and no longer changes settings you never mentioned. It can keep an empty day free, tells a question about your training apart from an instruction to change it, stops adding one-line sign-offs, passes a training priority you agree on through to the plan builder, can plan a ten-hour endurance day again, fetches the weather without you opening the weather card first, and tells you when IntervalCoach has lost access to your Intervals.icu calendar.

On the plan side, a goal in a sport you do little of is now built up gradually from your last four weeks, at most one session and about 20% more per week. Your coaching instructions shape the generated plan and not only Train Now. Long plans keep their shape in the later weeks, build weeks step up inside each block, the goal projection matches the plan on the page, and the week after a race is a recovery week even with a hand-set phase layout. Sessions stay within their slot: swaps respect your daily maximum, a session that overruns its slot is rebuilt to fit, and interval sessions no longer grow by up to 12 minutes on the way to Intervals.icu. Road runners no longer get trail sessions, a workout type you ruled out cannot arrive inside an easy ride, a capped session is no longer named for the intensity it no longer contains, and a multi-day event entered as separate days is planned as one goal.

In the iOS & Mac apps

The Indoor / Outdoor bias setting reached the iOS app, and Max athletes get the performance benchmarks on the app's Analytics page: a benchmarks toggle, a cohort picker that applies, and a P50 reference line on the fitness chart. The recovery briefing meter leads with today's gap and names a population curve as one, the "What's new" card is on the dashboard there too, and deleting your account from the app now says what happens to your subscription first.
